Application Tips

The rAWr Award Application Tips
  • Start early, and bear in mind not to gather your support documents and evidence at the very last minute.
  • Get a team to work on the submission and allocate a few hours per week. You may want to engage some interns, volunteers or a PR agency to assist with your submission.
  • Remember the size of your company or event does not matter as judging is based on overall performance improvement.
  • Give every question equal consideration as every point counts.
  • Focus on measureable performance and results which will make it easier for judges to assess.
  • All judges sign a confidentiality agreement and will be selected to ensure there is no conflict of interest so the provision of financial performance figures will not be compromised, however, if you are unable to provide financial data as evidence then use tables and charts to illustrate percentage increase.
  • Make sure your submission can be read within 15 minutes, which is the approximate time Judges will have to review submissions.
  • Judges will be reviewing applicant submissions only. There is no site visits or interviews required.
  • Highlight and indicate the most important and relevant points first.
  • Stay focused. Provide information and evidence that are relevant to the questions.
  • The content is more important than the look of your submission.
  • Do not handwrite your response.
  • Create separate word / PDF document to answer questions to allow space, but make sure you label with corresponding question numbers.
  • Keep responses concise and to the point. A lengthy copy is not necessary and may not allow enough time for judges to review the entire application.
  • Clearly label and number any supporting documents so that it is easy for judges to refer to during the judging process.
  • Use third party evidence that is relevant to the content or the point being illustrated. For example third party audits, testimonials, surveys.
  • Use historical comparisons to illustrate performance improvement.
  • Submit relevant documents/materials that support criteria. If supporting documents are substantial, consider using extracts or highlight relevant sections of document.
  • Use facts and figures to highlight performance results.
  • Obtain testimonials that are relevant to the award criteria e.g. service level.
  • Case studies can be a useful form of evidence.
  • Highlight relevant accreditations, certifications, industry memberships and/or accolades.
  • Client satisfaction level is an important aspect of all award criteria. Evidence may be in the form of survey results, attendance growth, statistics on repeat customers/client retention, testimonials.
  • Get a colleague or third party to review your submission and provide feedback. Check if they were able to review submission in 15 minutes.
  • Consider illustrations of actions taken as a result of an internal performance review that has led to performance improvement or higher levels of client satisfaction.
  • Consider company policies and procedures as a form of evidence. For example: policies towards staff training and development, internships.
  • Examples of industry contributions include areas where the company and/or individual contribute to the industry above and beyond their job requirements. Examples: participation on industry association committees, university presentations and curriculum committees, industry training presentations, educational articles published.
  • Consider placing an application even if you are not sure you can match the criteria. It is an excellent opportunity for you to assess your own business practices and it will also enhance your chances of creating an award winning application in the future.
